As a teenager, I survived sexual violence and became a young mother. Those experiences changed the course of my life and eventually led me to seek asylum in the United States in search of safety. While I found a new beginning here, I never forgot the girls whose stories looked so much like my own.
I know what it means to carry shame that isn’t yours. I know what it feels like to have your future suddenly rewritten. And I also know what becomes possible when someone believes in you.
That is why I founded Wounded Healers International.
Today, we provide the support I wish every young survivor had: a safe home for girls escaping sexual violence, child marriage, and adolescent pregnancy, along with education, childcare, counseling, vocational training, and opportunities to rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
Although I now live and work in Maine, my heart remains connected to the girls in Kenya. Through fundraising, partnerships, and mission trips, I continue to invest in the future of young women who deserve the same opportunity that changed my own life.
Every survivor deserves more than rescue. She deserves the opportunity to heal, to learn, to dream, and to build her own future.
We rescue and support girls who have survived sexual violence, child marriage, and adolescent pregnancy — offering shelter, safety, and the start of a different story.
Education, vocational training, counseling, and life skills so young women can rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.
Many of the girls who come to us arrive pregnant or already caring for a baby — a direct result of the violence they survived. Our safe home provides prenatal support, safe delivery coordination, and postpartum care, along with on-site childcare so young mothers can continue their education and vocational training without having to choose between their child and their future. We walk with them through pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood as part of the same healing journey — because becoming a mother didn’t erase her right to grow up.
I lead trips to Kenya, giving individuals, churches, organizations, and community members the chance to experience this work firsthand and build meaningful relationships.
Every person who joins us — as a donor, volunteer, or traveler — becomes part of a global community committed to healing and justice.
Every dollar we raise helps provide safe housing, education, healthcare, counseling, childcare, and opportunities for girls who deserve the chance to create a different future.
Although I now live and work in Maine, my heart remains connected to the young women I left behind. Supporting them is not simply one of the things I do — it is part of who I am.
If this mission speaks to you, I invite you to join us. Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, partner with us, or travel to Kenya on one of our learning trips, you become part of a story that transforms survival into hope.
